私たちのチームでは、視覚を中心とした感覚情報の神経情報処理メカニズムの解明、とくに、ニューロンのアセンブリ活動を基盤とした視覚情報処理の計算論的原理の解明を目標に研究を行います。ニューロンがネットワークの中で発火活動によってどのように情報のやりとりをし視覚の認識を生み出しているのか? また、視覚情報処理の基準となる空間あるいは時間的スケールはどのようなものか? これらの問いに答えるため、行動課題中のマウスの一次視覚野の活動を、オプトジェネティックス、光学イメージング、微小電極記録など、最先端の実験技法を用いながら解析していきます。視覚認識メカニズム解明の研究のための理想的な実験系を構築し、また大脳皮質損傷などに対する医療応用をも見据えます。
